LIGHT UP NUMBERS
To try and get more real life projects under my belt, I discovered someone who was creating large-scale, wooden numbers, that were fitted with lightbulbs; these would then be available for hire, whether this be anniversaries, birthdays, etc.
In an effort to help out, as well as contribute to my portfolio, I began modelling the numbers from photographs that were taken of the numbers. Once the numbers were modelled, I could then move onto the lightbulbs.
Lightbulbs are quite intriquite on the inside, and so from creating the spiral of the lightbulb, where the lightbulb would screw in, I began modelling the inside. I first of all made the mid section that would hold the wires, where I then extruded some thin wires that would thread through the holes of the mid section. These wires would then pass though each other at certain points; this part was quite tricky to get right, but was very pleased with the final outcome of the wires and the whole lightbulb in general.
And finally, once the lightbulbs and numbers were created, I wanted to create an installation where they would be shown, as well as creating a backdrop for the numbers, when shown for advertising.
I created the room with the use of the MASH plug-in, which I used to create the wooden plank flooring; where I also added some different height variations to some of the planks, for a more realistic aesthetic to the flooring. From creating the room, I started to position the numbers all around the scene, in various places and rotations.
Afterwards, I wanted to create a foliage background, resulting in myself creating a couple lead variants, before I was then able to manipulate the leaves all around the wall in different positions and rotations, whilst also being wary of them not overlapping and looking unrealistic.
