MARS ONE PROJECT

One of the projects I took part in, during my time at college, was to create advertisments for the Mars One program.

The Mars One program was an up and coming event that was taking place, where astronauts were being sent into outer space, to then live and colonise on the planet Mars.

I began by using other artists for reference, creating various different poster styles. Some that are standard one page spreads, as well as some 2-page spreads, which I and many others thought looked really good; not restricting myself to a standard portrait canvas.

A lot of other experimentational work was created, such as the various typography styles found further down; before which I was able to identify the style and image I was wanting to capture within my work.

Here I began to really contrast both planets, Earth and Mars, as well as space; using flowers as a focal point, as they aren't something you would find anywhere on Mars.

I began to become fixated on this strong contradiction and use of nature within my work, more specifially; due to not only the contrast, but because flowers and wildlife signify life, beauty, and calmness.

Flowers and wildlife being a symbol of many positive emotions, as well as life is very siginificant in my work, as wildlife cannot also live in space, or on any other planet, so trying to link Mars and Earth was vital, using life as the connection; bringing life to Mars.

My final pieces were posters and leaflets, highlight Mars, Earth, and space.

Another important feature that I included within some of my final work was the contrast colour; with flowers bringing colour and life abstract collages of space.
