Swordtember

BEGINNING ‘SWORDTEMBER’, the first prompt was ‘gothic’. Before creating this sword, i sketched and created a sword, incorporating a bat wing as the blade, although I felt it looked too big; and thus settled on a more medieval styled sword.

GOTHIC

The next word prompt for swordtember was ‘skeleton’. I quickly decided to make a bone the sword, to which I would then only have to attach a handle onto the bone.

the handle would then be a sort of ‘pin’, similar to that of the titanium pins that are used during surgeries on people.

SKELETON

The third days prompt was the word ‘potion’. I decided to create a test tube with a cork in the top of the tube. The cork would then act as the swords blade, with the test tube then being the handle for the sword.

potion

the fourth days word prompt for swordtember was ‘crystal’.

I instantly decided on creating a singular crystal piece; that would act as the entire sword, from blade to handle, with the exception of some tape as the grip. The crystal sword has a long, narrow, sharp edge, acting as the blade, alongside a short, pointed bottom, acting as the handle.

Todays prompt word was ‘dragon’.

I didn’t fancy modelling a dragon, and so came across the idea of creating a dragon glass sword, similar the dragon glass weapons seen in ‘game of thrones’.

The grip on the handle is just some small rope wrapped around the dragon glass, fitting with the reference.

dragon

The word for the sixth day of swordtember was, emotion.

emotion is a very abstract word for this challenge; so i ended up on the idea of creatinga fairly normal sword with embedded gems, which would change colour depending on the users current emotion.

On top of this, i made the sword base display an obvious representation of the current emotion being portrayed, in an emoji.

emotion

This word was interesting to say the least, focusing on sea creatures.

through some research, a giant squid drew my attention, with the whole creature itself looking quite similar to that of a sword.

Once the head was created for the blade, I added eyes to the handle, alongside a few tentacles, protruding where the tentacles typically would on the sea creature.

cephalopod

Todays word was an obscure word, but simple in it’s definition; ‘extravagantly bright or showy’.

From this, I decided to create a gold plated sword, alongside several gems that would be placed at various sections of the sword.

gaudy

Mortuary was Today’s word, for swordtember.

I began researching mortuary tools, before coming across one that I’d seen before; a bone saw.

A bone saw seemed like the best option, sticking to the theme, whilst also proving to be quite challenging.

mortuary

Todays word was royal.

I began researching royal swords, and found very simple but golden and elegant designed swords.

The mythTological animal I used as a reference for this sword was pegasus; a flying, horned horse, created by the gods.

I incorporated the horn as the swords blade, and the wings have been used in the designing of the swords base.

The whole sword is pure white, much like the pegasus themself; besides an ivory coloured horn/blade.

The word for todays sword was the word, void.

I instantly wanted to create a black hole themed sword; where I ended up created the sword around ‘the black hole’, as if it was the power source or something.

In order to make it a little more clear that it’s not just a sphere in the middle of the sword, I created smaller voids, acting as some sort of particles, orbitting the main void hole.

void

Birthday was todays word. After dabbling between a couple designs, i decided to have a candle as the blade, and a kitchen knife as the handle, with both objects pertruding from a birthday; which is acting as the main base of the sword.

birthday

Cosmic was todays word. Upon creating the sword, having the idea of the handle and blade being held together by gravity, alongside several rings that would pulsate around a crystal, located between the blade and handle.

I originally wanted to have a galaxy image projected onto the blade but felt it looked a little tacky, and so opted to have a completely black blade; outlined with white on the edges.

cosmic

No, pirate was not todays word, but the word paranormal.

I wanted to create a ghostly looking sword; where i came across the idea to create a sword that used to belong to an infamous pirate, whos soul still lives on, through the sword itself.
